Hello, I am happy you have stopped by my web site. Let me introduce myself. I am Arlene Lane and my unique perspective on Applique Designs comes from my Slovenian heritage. I have always been attracted to the folk art of many European cultures and this is reflected in my unique applique quilt designs. In the mid 1980′s, I wrote and published a book on an applique technique, “Applique, an Effective New Approach.”
An award winning quilt designer, I have been given many awards for my applique quilts. My brodier perse quilt, “An Old English Flower Garden,” won first place at the San Diego quilt show, VISIONS. That same quilt won first place at the San Francisco quilt show chosen by renowned designers and authors Diana McClun and Laura Nownes. This quilt is featured on the cover of one of their books, “Quilts Galore,” and featured in the book. The highlight for this quilt was winning second place in Paducah, Kentucky, at the American Quilters Society Quilt Show.

I have been encouraged to share my patterns and my applique techniques after teaching and lecturing at Guilds and shops. You will be able to purchase all my patterns here on the web site as well as in your local shop. My web site is so new that many designs I am working on are in the process of being finished and will be going to the printer in just a few weeks. The SPRINGTIME SONNET series offers six of the twelve Applique Patterns to begin with. The remaining six patterns of this series are in production and will be available soon. Be sure to check back for these patterns.
The VINTAGE APPLIQUE series are a collection of traditional Applique block Designs with some what of a new twist. These Applique Block designs have been used for a very long time in some of the older Album Quilts.
My SLOVENIAN SPLENDOR Applique Pattern was born from a desire to reproduce many of the shapes and colors used by my grandmother and aunts in Slovenia. These women would use embroidery to decorate their festive garments. I transposed some of these shapes into an Applique layout for a wall quilt and have produced this quilt into a pattern.
The wall quilt ALPINE MEADOWS is another example of a Folk Art Applique Quilt. The shapes and forms have been handed down through the years and have been used by many cultures. They are familar shapes and pleasing to most Applique enthusiast.
Thank you for taking your time to browse through my site. I hope you found something to stimulate your Applique appetite. Be sure to view my Applique Quilt Gallery, these are a few of the Applique Quilts I have produced over the years. I am very fond of Broderie Perse style of Applique.
I hope viewing these quilts will possibly inspire you to try creating one for yourself.
